The Friends of Terry hosted a sold out event at the Terry Depot on Friday. Tickets went so fast for the evening performance that it was necessary to add a matinee as well. The entertainer was Nick Perkins, an Elvis entertainer. Cars lined the street for the performances. It’s great to bring visitors to our town as the Dimmer Theater has done for many years.

Nick Perkins, entertainer, is only 25 years old and lives in Hammond, LA. He launched his career at the age of eighteen. In 2018 he won the award in Tupelo as the best Elvis impersonator.

If you missed the Elvis show, The Friends of Terry will be presenting “The Beagles” on July 19th at the Terry Depot. “Music through the decades.” The doors open at 5:30 pm for the DinnerTheater. Tickets are $30.

The Village Park in Terry featured live entertainment on Saturday, “Music for your Soul”.
Church choirs and other local singers were the main attraction. There was food and vendors available. It was pleasant sitting under the wonderful trees in our park. The sponsor was the Mayors Council, Joseph Kendrick. Serving as coordinators were: Jackie Mitchell and Bonnie Holly.

Another event this group recently sponsored was Bingo in the Community Center. Bingo will be held each second Thursday of the month. There are snacks and prizes as well Lots of fun! Please join them for the next session.

If you haven’t been to downtown Terry in a while - then drop by for a visit with the new Ladies Boutique. The window always looks so attractive and colorful. We welcome this new store to our town.

The Annual Tomato Festival in Crystal Springs was held this past Saturday. Huge crowd and all ages in attendance There were many vendors and freshly grown local tomatoes. There were other locally grown vegetables and products for sale as well I’ve been enjoying the bag of tomatoes and okra I brought home. Great tomato sandwiches. The Cattlemen’s Sandwich was delicious and lines of people were waiting in anticipation. This yearly festival has grown into a regional event for the area and attracts many visitor’s to the town.

The Terry Baptist Church Vacation Bible School is scheduled for July 14-17. All 4 year olds through 6th graders are encouraged to attend. There is no need for parents to feed the attendees since supper will be provided and starts at 5:30 pm.

Sunday morning I received a call from Eddie Fair, Hinds County Tax Collector. He has been a friend of the Johnson family for many years. I recently learned that Fannie Lou Hamer, American Civil Rights worker, was his aunt. I watched the PBS special on her life story not long ago and heard her beautiful singing voice. PBS runs the story on an infrequent basis.

We have been so blessed in Terry this past week with sporatic rain showers. Surely helps our gardens and the farmers with their crops as well.
