The James Foster Chapter, MSSDAR met on Tuesday in the Parish Hall of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Dwight Odom was present and played the National Anthem on the piano.
The speaker was Shana Fondren and the subject was, "Women in the American Revolutionary War." She also shared books with documentary coins on women that had made contributions in other wars as well. A business meeting was held and presided by Judy Fortenberry of Brandon. Refreshments were served following the meeting.
Thanks to Jackie Mitchell for her help in getting part of a tree that had fallen and in front of the yard for two months. Also with cleanup around the viaduct area. Trash was strewn and commercial signs in abundance on light poles.
There is an ordinance prohibiting the posting of signs in the City Limits, however, it is clearly not being observed. A new maintenance director has been hired by the town and, hopefully, this will soon improve.
The annual MS Urban Forestry Council will be held on Saturday, May 9 at Renaissance, Colony Park from 10 am to 3 pm. Presenters at the Magnolia Flowers will be Fielder Rushing, Nellie Neal and Rick Griffin. The speaker for the conference will be Harvey Cotton. Donna Yowell with MS Urban Forest Council is sponsor. Mark your calendars to attend this informational event.
The Terry Woman's Club will meet at Old Capitol Inn for the annual luncheon on Thursday, May 14. All members are urged to attend.
