Thank you Bell Ringers! July 4 at noon the church bells tolled in Terry as in Philadelphia, PA in 1776. Kim Sadler rang the Baptist Church bell, Danny McDavid Episcopal Church, Carolyn Clements Little Bethel Church, Jo and David Hester garden bell.
The Terry Branch of Hope Credit Union is closing. The last day of operation is Friday, July 17th. The town needs a financial institution and regret their move.
Some of our citizens do not have transportation or no longer drive. On Wednesday, July 8 at Terry City Hall the reading of the Declaration of Independence was presented by Monty Wilson, Mayor Hobson and Elisha Johnson. Senator Blount lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Denise Davis directed the singing of the National Anthem and God Bless America. Refreshments were served by Jo Hester and Roony Davis. The Terry Historic Preservation Committee joined with the Town of Terry in presenting the patriotic program.
Carolyn Clements served as Event Chairman with Andy Wade. Virginia Bailey, and Dorothy Jones. The James Foster Chapter of MSSDAR joined in making this a special America 250 project.
We welcomed Copiah Chapter of MSSDAR for their support. Thanks to State Chairman of America 250, Kathy Henry, for patriotic memorabilia that included fans, stickers, pins, flags, pocket constitutions and more for guests. Bette Poole with James Foster Chapter, MSSDAR, donated and set up decorations.
Workers for the railroad have been busy in the area making repairs. The trains have slowed down considerably and it has been entertaining to watch as they roll and rumble by. A reminder that everything seemed to go at a slower pace in years gone by.
Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church, Terry. Will be July 12 through 16. The theme is Rainforest Falls - Exploring the Nature of God.
The sessions will be in the evenings.
