The Town of Terry Board meeting was Tuesday evening in the Community Center. Jackie Mitchell was absent. Alderwoman Connie Taylor was present by zoom call. She was in Houston, TX taking care of a very ill brother. The America 250 Observance was discussed. There will be a parade and fun extravaganza in the park immediately following the parade on Saturday, July 11th starting at 10 o'clock. In addition to the July 11th celebration the town will observe this important date in our nation's history on July 4th when all the Church bells in the community will ring at Noon. Also, on July 8 at 1 o'clock the the entire Constitution will be read by Mayor Bruce Hopkins at Terry City Hall. The Terry Historic Preservation committee, with the Town of Terry, will sponsor these events. This committee will also present free miniature flags to the children of the community on July 11th. We urge everyone to show their patriotism by attending this reading. The Terry community was saddened, once again, over the death of Lillie Rene Hales Jones. She was the wife of Toby Jones that passed away only weeks ago. She had lived in Terry her entire life, except for a period in Japan while Toby was stationed there. Lillie Rene was a graduate of Terry High School and a devout member of First Baptist Church, Terry. We extend our sincere condolences to her family and many friends. I was so fortunate last week when I heard a knock at the door. My good friend, Linda Channel from Crystal Springs, was standing there with a bag of Crystal Springs tomatoes. I-sat on the front porch, watching the trains go by, with the first tomato sandwich of the season and an ice cold glass of sweet tea. You can't beat this experience! The tomato festival in Crystal Springs will be the last Saturday of June. This is always a fun event! Reminder of the Friends of Terry production of "Dearly Departed" this Friday and Saturday evening, June 12 and 13. The dinner theatre will start at 6 pm. Call Sandra Frith for tickets and information.
