President Trump Negotiates Another Winning Deal

President Trump has instigated any number of audacious and "threatening" moves to make America great again. His latest is acquiring Greenland as one of his properties and renaming it "the land of many greens," on which he has already planned 52 golf courses.

Nevertheless, I bet the first paragraph goes viral among woke folks who have welcomed fellow socialists and communists to participate in the mid-term elections. They are so naive.

Like any good conspiracy theory, the Greenland spoof is based on some truth. You may have missed the New York Times report, "U.S. and Denmark Reach Security Deal on Greenland, Trump Says."

During his first week in office this time around President Trump mentioned the strategic position of Greenland a number of times drawing the ire and ridicule of the wholesale left in America and the world who literally feared he might actually buy the island and name it for himself. Actually, in 1951 Denmark and the U.S. signed the Greenland defense agreement, and America built Thule Air Base to monitor airspace between the U.S. and Russia for intercontinental and submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

The 1951 agreement was woefully inadequate for 2026 as a long-term agreement to protect us from Russian and Chinese attacks. Thus, Trump announced a deal he had reached with Denmark and Greenland that gives the United States "permanent control over security, and all other needs" in Greenland.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio released a comment on social media saying, "this historic agreement permanently guarantees U.S. security interests in the Arctic at zero cost to the U.S. taxpayer."

Rubio continued, "Greenland will forever be part of the strategic defense area of North America and exclude any adversary from it and the surrounding area. This deal permanently and completely addresses our national security concerns in Greenland."

Of course, the NYT declared, "the agreement fell well short of Mr. Trump's long-standing demand of total control over Greenland." Critical readers of news marveled the Times even bothered to cover the event. In truth the deal stands even if Greenland ever becomes independent, and the U.S. has veto power over Russian or China involvement in Greenland.

As a bonus, the new agreement supersedes the old 1951 agreement which was a NATO-era agreement between Denmark and the U.S. That was a barrier to the U.S. ever leaving NATO. So, why would we want to leave NATO? Maybe because NATO nations refused to allow American planes to use their air bases during the war with Iran. We have protected NATO nations for all these years, and now they won't let us land on their bases?

Secretary Rubio raised this very issue on Sean Hannity's show last March saying, "If now we've reached a point where the NATO alliance means that we can't use those bases, that in fact, that we can no longer use those bases to defend America's interests, then NATO is a one-way street."

This isn't saying the U.S. is on the verge of leaving NATO at all. We are still very much members held in high esteem. NATO nations on the other hand appear to be playing fast and loose with traditional expectations of cooperation among member states. President Trump made a deal with Greenland and consolidated much stronger relations with NATO nations. Now we know.
